APASA was founded in 1999 by a group of various nationalities including Spanish, English, German and Swiss. APASA was founded with the aim of rescuing those animals that were evidently abandoned, ill-treated or lost. The Ayuntamiento de Xabia (Spanish for Town Hall) allocated land for this purpose.
We started with 23 dogs in 4 kennel areas of 3 x 4 metres square. With the years APASA has expanded its kennels to accommodate the increase number of residents. In 2016 we had around 250 residents, 2019 we had 138 residents, and today we have just over 60 residents.
APASA is a non-profit organisation which is funded by contributions and donations from supporters, the organisation of events, sales in the APASA charity shop and by the Ayuntamiento de Xabia.
Our association is managed through a board of directors, in addition to a team of qualified staff who are responsible for the cleaning of the animal areas, the care of the animals, and the helping of rescuing abandoned animals.
Our raison d’être, our goal, is to find every dog an appropriate new home.
